Artist Statement

Born in 1945, Surbiton, England. Graduated 1967, Liverpool College of Art, Fine Art, weaving, Art History 2:1. 1968 A.T.D. Art Teacher 1968-86, Liverpool, Lincoln and Lowestoft.1986-2001 Supply teacher, Art Lecturer, Therapist, Private Art Tutor.
Since 1984 I have exhibited paintings, drawings and textiles nationally in numerous group and solo shows, on themes of Sexuality, Birth and Fertility. Large, colourful abstracts developed from drawings inspired by the birth of my two children 1974/5. These shows received sponsorship from Dulux Paints and media coverage. Publications include ‘The Women’s Art Magazine’ 1990, and two German midwifery journals 1995/7.
Mixed media work followed using feathers with reference to the moon, symbols of female truth and fertility. Also framed textiles exploring the relationships of yarns and woven fibres to painted canvas.
I am now experimenting with hand-knitting techniques, inspired by music and the changing seasons, combining cascading yarns and recycled fibres to evoke the mood of the calendar months.
