Artist Statement

After 30 years working in English literature at Edinburgh, Cambridge and UEA, I was a late starter in the Foundation course at Norwich art school. I wanted to practise a new language; but the shift from verbal to visual is difficult. My work remains literary and often literal. Caroline Hoskin, whose mind works the other way round, has helped me to to see some of the larger meanings that lurk in images.
