Artist Statement

Julia studied at Goldsmith’s College and then at the Royal Academy Schools. At nineteen she sold her first work in the RA Summer show, and whilst a student her self-portrait was awarded second prize in the first National Portrait Gallery Competition.
It is the intense observation of nature that Julia has found her favourite subject matters, whether it be pieces of twisted wood, the inner world of a plant, shells or rock. She transcends them from a mere still-life to emanate an emotional response abstracted from its context.

Previous Exhibitions

Julia has exhibited in the annual exhibitions of the RA Summer Exhibition, New English Art Club, The Royal Water-colour Society Open Show, The Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours, The Royal Society of British Artists and The Singer and Friedlander Water-colour Award.
She has also exhibited at The National Portrait Gallery, The Philadelphia Museum of Art, The Maas Gallery, The New Grafton Gallery, Waterhouse & Dodd, The Russell Gallery and many other galleries in Britain and Europe.
Julia has also been as demonstrator at various venues including Art In Action 2006,7,10, as well as giving talks and writing articles for magazines.
